What happens when you learn so much that your eyes become opened up to a new world? Do you start to see a world where animals are endangered and on the verge of extinction? Before I completely get overwhelmed, I have to remind myself that miracles don’t happen over night. I just need to start with one thing and continue progressing. It starts with one thing If you want to help save the planet, start with these 6 ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
It is completely selfish for me to just sit here with all this knowledge and do nothing with it. I know so many different things about wildlife and the impact humans have on their habitats. From global climate change, to poaching, to humans killing their habitat, people are slowly destroying all wildlife. Did you know sharks are decreasing drastically every year? An animal that has been around before the dinosaurs. Yes you read that right, dinosaurs. Every single hour, 11,417 sharks are killed. That’s 100 million sharks a year! The ocean is a crucial part of keeping our planet alive. We need the creatures in the ocean to survive just as much as we need to survive. Reducing your carbon footprint is something all of us can do to help every single day.
The questions now are, where the hell do we start? And, how do we make an impact? It’s questions that have been on my mind for months. There are so many animals and yet billions of people contributing to the danger of all these animals lives. How exactly am I — only one person — going to make an impact?
First things first, do not get overwhelmed! Simply start with one thing. I completely understand it’s a hell of a lot easier to write that down or type it out than it is to actually start doing something. But, at the same time, we have to start somewhere if we want to begin to see a change in the world. I am the type of person who wants to get ten things done; oh I don’t know, like YESTERDAY! If you read my previous article DO WHAT YOU WANT you probably understand how my mind operates — SUPER FAST. So I have slowly narrowed it down to a few things.
Before we continue any further, a very important question to ask is, “how do we get people to care?” Why is it that someone who makes a sex video for fame has 37 million followers but, the Nature Conservancy barely has a couple hundred thousand followers? Why aren’t people concerned to save our planet helping our lakes, rivers and oceans, our wildlife and their habitats, or our rain forests and oceans, not to mention every other beautiful place that has existed far longer than us? These are the questions we need answers to. If you have kids or plan on having kids, YOU NEED to care. They will not have a planet if we continue to live the way we are living. I am truly passionate in saving our planet and i hope you can contribute by reducing your carbon footprint.
To the person reading this article, please do something today, anything. If you don’t know where to start, here are 6 ways you can reduce your carbon footprint.
Go Vegan or Vegetarian
Just by going vegetarian you can reduce your carbon footprint by 14%. If you decide to eliminate all animals by going vegan, you will reduce your carbon footprint by 17%. Animals have personalities and emotions just like humans do.
Switch to electric cars.
Cars produce a lot of CO2 every day. Try not to drive your car for one day. Take a bike or walk instead. If that is out of the question, Tesla is coming out with an affordable electric car in 2016 for $35,000. So they can be super affordable and not hideous.
Stop using plastic water bottles and plastic bags.
This simple elimination could save animals all across our oceans. It takes 400 years for plastic to disintegrate. If you absolutely have to use plastic, recycle!
Invest in solar panels.
These save you money and you will get a return on your investment. If you don’t have a home yourself, get involved in your local community. Educate your friends in families why it is beneficial for them to invest in solar panels.
Educate yourself as well as others*
Knowledge is such a powerful thing. One of America’s greatest assets are teachers. Teaching our future generations is the best place to start. The more we come informed and educated, the more we can do to help. Sometimes people just need to hear a few facts and something clicks and instantly change their lifestyle(That’s what happened to me.) Other people may need a little more convincing, but remember to never give up and always continue to speak with passion.
Volunteer doing ANYTHING.
Go to your nearest homeless shelter and feed the hungry. Go visit a retirement home. Save an endangered animal by traveling to a different country. Go to the beach and pick up trash. Volunteer to help someone recycle. Do something today that will give you fulfillment for the rest of your life.
