Always daydreaming about places you want to travel to next but have no idea when or how you are going to make it happen? You’re not alone. There are many people who don’t think they can travel when in reality traveling is at accessible as you want to make it. It forces you to become a better person and throws you out of your comfort zone. Traveling doesn’t have to be expensive. At the end of this article you should probably hop on over here and book your next flight to anywhere! Here are 10 reasons why you need to plan a vacation today!
It’s good for the soul.
Traveling forces you to step out of your comfort zone. Say you’re in a foreign country where many don’t speak English, yet you have to navigate yourself around a city. While that may sound scary, it’s actually quite exhilarating.
There comes a moment when you realize there is nothing to fear and you begin to appreciate the pure beauty of the city of Venice while you’re riding on a gondola. Or maybe your fear eliminates entirely when you witness Greece’s breath-taking sunsets ever witnessed.
These are the experiences you can’t get from reading a Lonely Planet book or by simply reading this article. You have to GO and experience life for itself. Once you shut the little voice inside your head telling you that you
can’t,your soul will officially be able to live!
You’ll realize how inexpensive it can be
I know you have probably been dreaming about sitting on the beaches of Jamaica or a taking a week backpacking in Ireland, yet you never have found the time or the money to get around to it. Well, the excuses stop today [insert hand emoji here!] Traveling is not expensive at all! All you have to do is put a little effort and research and you will be able to travel for next to nothing.
I previously wrote an article on how to score cheap flights. Airfare is usually the most expensive part of traveling. On top of that, you will need to budget for: visas (if needed), accommodation, food, and leisure spending. If you want to know more on how inexpensive it is to travel, let me know and I will gladly write a post about it.
Your life will change forever.
As I type this, I don’t mean this statement lightly. Traveling begins to change the person you have become and will change your life forever, for the better. It teaches you how to jump out of your comfort zones even when you don’t feel like it. If you’re lost and have no idea where on earth you are, (trust me, it happens) you have no choice but to ask a stranger. The first person you ask may not want to help but keep trying because a local will be able to navigate you home.
(Pro tip: You can always have them direct you to a nearby landmark near by where you’re staying so they don’t know exactly where you are located.)
You will become a better person.
I used to be the person who hated the world and always blamed someone else and it was NEVER my fault. I would never accept my own fault and I was constantly negative towards everyone and any situation thrown my way.
Today, I am a completely different person. I am super positive and always motivating people towards a happier life through self-growth. I am a firm believer on what you put into the universe is exactly what you get thrown back into your lap.
If you’re constantly hating life and always saying things like, “Why does this always happen to me?” or “Why can’t things ever go my way?” Do you see a pattern emerging? Unfortunately, not everything is about just you, it’s about how you treat all the people around you. Once you start spreading positivity and start smiling more and thinking that greater things will happen, they start to happen.
Traveling is what changed my life and opened up my eyes to a new world. Imagine, you are have just hiked for 2 hours up a huge mountain. You feel the wind picking up a little bit and you know you’ve almost made it to the top. Once you finally get there, you are faced with the most magnificent, awe-striking view. A view that is so breath-taking it leaves you speechless. In this moment, a moment of realization puts into perspective just how small you and your problems truly are.
It’s the best feeling when you have worked so hard to get to the top and just gasp for air for how remarkable life is at this very moment. We are only given one life, so live it every single day happier than you were yesterday because you’re never promised tomorrow.
.You’ll learn more.
One of the best ways to learn history is to be where it happened. I have been to so many historical places in Europe that I vividly remember because I was there and not reading it through my textbook.
I walked the same streets Princess Diana was shot in Paris. I have been to two concentration camps where holocaust victims were once held. There is nothing more heartbreaking than to stand in the same place as someone who suffered, tremendously. Going to Amsterdam and visiting Anne Frank’s home where she hid and reading all the writing she did are moments you can never forget.
Reading transcripts and listening to audio guides of so many courageous and heroic people who have influenced history, is the greatest way to learn.
You get the chance to meet amazing people
Oh the people you will meet on your journey! Doing the same routine day in and day out gets tiresome and boring. You see the same people, you work with same people, and you spend your days off with the same people. Not saying there’s anything against being with the same people all the time, but traveling forces you to network and connect with other people.
It’s crazy once you start doing what you love to do, how many like-minded people you’ll meet on your way. It gives you a feeling of reassurance that everything is working out (probably, better than expected.) It’s funny to me that sometimes we get an exciting idea and think of all the things that could go wrong. We instantly put our guards up and shut the idea down completely. We listen to that little voice in our head telling us we can’t. Instead of worrying about the bad and how alone we could feel, start researching. It only takes a five second Google search to search for stories just like the life you want to live. You will see there are people just like you who have been in your shoes. They will tell you and probably show you, they survived exactly what you want to do or where you want to go.
You will gain new experiences while creating lifetime memories
One of the best parts of my life are the memories I get to have every day of all the different countries I’ve been to. I don’t say this to brag, I say this with motivation to encourage you to travel. Being able to look back on that one time I was in Rome, Paris with my best friend strolling the beautiful streets, roaming (no pun intended.) Finding a nearby park, we pulled out our cheap and delicious $5 best bottle of wine ever and began to soak up this insanely amazing moment. There was absolutely no worries, no stress, just us living the absolute, most carefree, stress-free life. That moment is irreplaceable and I encourage you more than ever to book a ticket to ANYWHERE! You will create the memories of a lifetime.
You will start to realize how much stronger you are than you think
It can be scary if you are traveling alone, or you’re going out of the country for the first time. But you also have to remember regret is the scariest thing of all. Get out there and just book your flight. Once you get there, everything will figure itself out. There are going to be so many times when you think you can’t do something, and you turn around and somehow do it. You have no idea how you just did it, but you did.
Know that you can conquer the world. It is all up to you, you just have to want it more than you’ve ever wanted anything. You’ll have no choice but to travel the world for the rest of your life.
You’ll be addicted to living life to the fullest from here on out
“Once you have caught the travel bug,
there is no known antidote to curing it.”
Traveling is an amazing addiction to have and there’s nothing greater to be addicted to. Having the ability to travel is priceless. The moments you will have and the places you will see are opportunities some people may never experience in their lives. It’s such a rewarding feeling to know you are setting foot in a place that only a couple hundred people might ever step foot.
I promise you, you will not be able to get enough. Just make time and do it! What is stopping you from your traveling dreams? Is it money, work, school, kids, maybe a boyfriend? Whatever it is, stop. It’s a stupid excuse and YOU can travel. There are so many people making their dreams a reality. You just have to start somewhere and there’s no better time than now. Start by saving money, figure out how you can get time off from work, see if your friends or family can watch your kids for a couple of days (you need a break anyways.) Bring your boyfriend with you, if you can’t grab your best friend. There’s always a solution to any problem you have, you just have to want to make it work.
10. You won’t regret it, I promise!
I totally regretted that one time I went on a vacation to the Bahamas drinking nothing but Pina Coladas in my bikini said no one ever. Just buy the cheapest ticket you can find and make it a vacation! There are countless places to visit, there is no reason you cannot travel this year!
So what are you waiting for?
BUY THAT DAMN PLANE TICKET!
